At this moment, I am still a little unclear about “felt sense” —perhaps because I have done so little creative writing per se. I imagine the process(es) will become more coherent for me after we do the…well, whatever Professor Perl has in mind for us in terms of excercises in class later today. What the chapters I read did make me think of was how when I am drawing I will know pretty much immediately when I’ve “gotten it”—when something is right on the page. I’ll just know, and with absolute certainty. I will most likely have to scribble and erase and futz around, beating something into shape until finally the “right” image will coalesce, out of seemingly nowhere that I could explain in a rational way.
Also, over the past few years I have watched Marguerite do an odd little gesture when she is writing, while she’s searching for the proper way to phrase or to parse a word or passage, a sort of faux-praying, hmmm—a little bit of what I could call a cathedralling of her fingers. Then she hits it. So maybe that is what it is about? I guess I’ll see.
